Wine is definitely one of the best ways to run Windows software on a Mac. It has a large following and plenty of support and ways to find what you need and it is constantly being updated. I was actually planning on writing a tutorial on how to install the Windows version of Steam on Mac OS X with a standard Wine installation.
- While you can just run Wine's configure script and keep installing libraries that it complains are missing, using a package manager will save you a lot of trouble and keep your system cleaner. The main caveat with the various macOS package repos is that you do not want to mix them.

First of all, I want to thank everyone for PokeGen and all the events and such you have cataloged on the site. It's been an invaluable resource, and I know how much work it must take to maintain it. To the topic at hand: I'm running PokeGen on a Mac with Wine. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to function properly with Desmume. I can upload my Pokemon to PokeGen fine, but when I click 'Save File', I get a '.bak' file instead of '.sav'. Desmume can't read this, so I first delete the unedited file completely and then delete the.bak so that only the.sav remains on the edited file. Desmume opens the file but none of the changes are made.
It's as if I never ran PokeGen at all. Does this have to do with having the 'Mac version'? I notice that some of the other features don't work. For instance, when I right click an empty box, instead of seeing a drop-down menu with 'Set', nothing happens. I really hope I'm not wasting your time because of my own idiocy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again.

USE PIVOT STICK FIGURE FOR MAC! Or you know ezvid, bandicam, or fraps. But seriously you have Quicktime Pro with mac. Step 1: Download Xquartz, (I didn't do this in this video because I had it already).
Then Go to This website, and click the download button, once that's done wait FOREVER for you to actually download it. It takes like 1 minute so tweedle your thumbs in the mean time, or do something productive like listen to DUBSTEP! WUB WUB WUB.okay in all seriousness proceed to step two Step 2: drag the applications wine and wine bottler into your applications folder.
This step isn't that difficult I MEAN IT'S NOT BRAIN SCIENCE OR ROCKET SURGERY HERE, just take it AND PUSH IT SOMEWHERE ELSE. Also while your at it, eat some carbohydrates because it takes a huge amount of energy to drag your mouse over your desktop, so replenish that expended energy with calories.unless you have a health problem or you're on a diet. (Note GalacticsTutorials is not responsible for anything stupid that you do to yourself or your stuff) Step 3: Open wine bottler and wine, this step is a little bit more complicated if you're someone like me who gets confuzzled about overly simplistic tasks, try not to click it 50 times like I stupidly did in the video and got 'technical difficulties' after that install whatever applications you want under the installation suggestions (a.k.a skip that) then just open your windows application or your.exe program and PRESTO you can use windows applications on your mac.
